According to the laws of nature, women cannot maintain their fertility for life. After about the age of 35, these abilities usually begin to decrease and almost do not remain in the mid-40s. There are also some hereditary or acquired factors (malnutrition, smoking, exposure to chemicals, surgeries on the ovaries) that bring this condition forward or postpone it.
Our patient A.Ü applied to us because of having a child and irregular menstruation. In the examinations, it was observed that he was 42 years old and the number of eggs decreased during the examination. In the hormone analysis, it was observed that FHS (Egg Growth Hormone), which should normally be around 10, was 50 and there was no egg draft suitable for stimulation in the ovaries. After the necessary examinations, the patient was given drugs to support the egg structure in order to achieve pregnancy without wasting time. In the follow-up performed 2 months later, 1 egg draft suitable for stimulation (antral follicle) was seen in her right ovary. It was decided to use it in IVF treatment. The patient responded to the treatment given. However, after the examinations, it was understood that the egg would hatch early and would not be able to reach the IVF treatment, and vaccination was performed. After waiting for 2 weeks after vaccination, the result was positive. Her pregnancy is still ongoing and her follow-up continues in our clinic. We are expecting to give birth in May 2017.
The number of eggs is very important for a woman's fertility. Women with early menopause in their family (cessation of menstruation under the age of 38), including newly married couples, and those with the above-mentioned conditions should be evaluated by examination and hormone analysis. Suitable patients can achieve pregnancy with the treatments given, even if the number of eggs is low.
